Countless studies have shown that mentors help students raise their expectations and push
themselves because they feel like someone is supporting them, advising them, and holding them
accountable. LOT mentors both motivate students and help them develop discipline and
responsibility.

You've been in the area for a while. You realize that there are problems in the community, but you
thought that the problem was too big for one person to solve.

Well it is. But it’s not too big when professionals work together.

The LOT program is an integrated system of workshops and activities designed to help high school
students develop into college-educated professionals. The key, however, is the pool of talented
mentors.

Mentors assume one of two roles: Coach or Personal Mentor Advisor. Coaches are responsible for a
particular and recurring programmatic function of the program, like teaching marketing, finance,
professional development and management, or coordinating student development in areas like
community service, academics or personal planning. Personal Mentor Advisors are responsible for
smaller groups of students and help the students navigate through the challenges presented to them
by the Coaches and the general pressures of life.

The Leaders of Tomorrow program operates on an "each one, teach many" basis. We know from
experience, however, that by sharing the skills that have made you successful, you can help point
young people in the right direction. If your passion is teaching and coordinating, become a coach. If
your passion is listening and counseling, become a Life Leader. Either way, you will make a
substantial difference in the life of an area student.
